Individual

Oban

I am a creative producer and community arts worker from Oban.

I started off working with refugee communities in Glasgows; today, I work mainly in the Highlands and Islands, particularly in Oban and North Argyll. My connection to place, Gaelic language and the region’s social history is at the heart of my work.

I believe practising art is a natural and ordinary part of being a human being and I’m interested in developing spaces where people can make creative connections, regardless of what level of arts experience they have. I'm particularly interested in recognising the deep Gaelic cultural roots we have in this area, and finding ways to honour those in a post-vernacular context.

In 2022 I completed an MA in Art and Social Practice and am now working on a PhD with the Centre for the Sciences of Place and Memory at the University of Stirling, exploring re(-)membered Gaelic traditional social knowledge and community arts practice.

From 2022-23 I job shared the role of Visual Arts Curator at An Tobar and Mull Theatre, and I currently work part-time as Company Manager for Gaelic theatre company Theatre Gu Leòr, alongside occasional freelance work.
